The past few weeks have been challenging for us.

Why, do you ask? Because of Constantia Kloof and surrounding areas experiencing water supply disruptions after pipes had burst. All the requests, complaints and enquiries from residents certainly kept us busy.

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but are construction companies not supposed to check the existing infrastructure such as underground water pipes, before starting construction? We realise that accidents do happen, but these accidents are disruptive and annoying.

Water is a basic human right and everybody depends on clean running water to survive. We could find ways to cope without electricity for a few days, but not without water.

We realise how privileged we are when we think about those who do not have clean, running water.

I must take my hat off to Joburg Water though. Initially we were told that it would take up to a week to fix the problem, but it was done within two days at the most. Well done to them.

A persisting problem is the dwindling water pressure that has residents up in arms. According to reports valves near Excel Park are jammed and need to be replaced. I am sure Joburg Water will work just as fast to repair whatever needs repairing.

We will continue to keep our reader updated on their progress.

If you are fortunate enough not to be affected by the disruptions, consider helping someone who is. I am sure paying it forward will go a long way.

Until next week, take care of one another.

Ciao
