Dancers take Durban by storm
Two Allen Glen High School dancers make the national team.
Allen Glen High School’s own dance troupe represented Gauteng in the recent inter-provincial dance tournament in Durban.
The six dancers faced off against participants from the Western Province and KwaZulu-Natal. The team said although the experience was nerve-wracking, they managed to scoop up a few awards and learned a great deal from the experience about how to be a team and benefit from the knowledge of other participants. The group put a lot of practice into their group and solo dances and are happy with how they placed.
Two of the dancers, Nsangu Phiri and Msuri Manyike, were selected to be part of the national team and represent South Africa in future tournaments. Nsangu also placed first in the solo dance open category, while Msuri said one of his greatest achievements in the tournament was that the dance crew he was part of placed first in their division.
Other notable achievements in Durban include Zinhle Sikundla coming second in her duo dance and Ofentse Shibambo’s U/16 crew placing first in the small team division.
Unfortunately, one of the original six members of the troupe, Cole Solomons, was unable to participate in the tournament as he had other sporting commitments.
