Learners face fears to give life-saving donation

Charter College Grade 10s donate blood for the first time.

Charter College’s Grade 10 learners bravely participated in the third term’s blood drive.

It was the first blood drive most of the Grade 10’s could attend since they turned 16. Many nervous faces slowly chewed their lunch while waiting for their turn on the black stretchers.

Kieran Rens prepares to donate blood while he is supported by fellow Grade 10, Zoe Spurr.

Principal, Alison Dodge, said the number of children who donate increases every drive and the school, even though it is small, does their bit to support the South African National Blood Service. “There is a lot of camaraderie among the learners and they encourage one another to donate,” said Alison.
