The country is in turmoil again as the vote of no confidence against our President is taking place.

By the time we go to press, the results will already be known.

The media has been warned about wide-spread protests taking place. Many motorists were asked to take an alternative route to work while the protesters, as usual, burn tyres, block roads and generally just vandalise whatever gets in their way.

We all know that this is not the first vote of no confidence against the President, but the previous votes were not enough to get him to resign from his position of mismanaging the country.

It is, however, not up to the citizens of the country to vote him out, it is up to the top brass who, in my humble opinion, will not vote him out because their jobs are way too cushy to leave.

What irks me though is the fact that the people vandalise, burn down and cause chaos on the roads to voice their dismay at what is happening. Maybe they just enjoy causing chaos, because I certainly don’t understand the reasoning behind their protests.

I am not even close to knowing all the ins and outs of politics; I am just one of the citizens of this country who are not only shocked at all the corruption, fraud and shortsightedness of the politicians but also concerned that if something drastic doesn’t happen, we will end up in the same situation as other African countries.

I love my country, as so many South Africans do. We have gorgeous weather, beautiful landscapes and interesting historic landmarks.

How do you feel about the vote of no confidence? Do you think there is still a future in this beautiful country? Send your comments to roelienv@caxton.co.za.

Until next week, stay safe.
