Charity begins at home with Charter College

Charter College thanks two staff members for their service to the school with a huge gesture of kindness.

Love and kindness were both to be seen at Charter College International High School on Johan Road in Honeydew, when they recently handed over a house they had built for two valued members of staff.

The school worked on this special outreach programme for weeks, with the whole College family stepping up to make the project a reality, donating funds, as well as food and cleaning materials, among other items.

The staff and many of the students, especially the Grade 11s and some Grade 12 learners, were more than willing to give of their time organising all the donations of household goods that were received.

The final aim was to be able to give the school’s own Sylvia Mosimanyaha and Lena Chochoe a safe home for themselves and their children. Sylvia and Lena had been living under difficult conditions in Zandspruit with no electricity or proper ablution facilities, leaking roofs, and safety issues. Now they are able to live in comfort on the school premises.

Principal Alison Dodge said in an assembly before the handover, “I have always lived life by one motto – ‘Be kind’ – and my goodness, have we seen kindness!” The school felt it was important to show kindness to these two woman as the learners and teachers appreciate everything they do for the school on a day-to-day basis.
