Body of alleged illegal miner found

Case of murder opened

A case of murder has been opened after a body was found next to Main Reef Road in Matholesville today. The man, suspected to be an illegal miner, was found with several gun shot wounds to his upper body.

Gauteng Police Provincial spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo said they are still investigating the motive for the murder.

“At this point the motive is unknown. The killers are still at large and the community is urged to come forward with any information that could help with the case.”

The discovery was made not far from where police and JMPD officials were conducting a raid on illegal miners and closing down shafts.

Police added that they were not certain whether the raids and the murder were connected.
