Is JMPD lacking manpower? On 19 July, a huge by-law enforcement operation in Ward 97, which yielded positive results, left residents wondering when they saw members of the Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) being assisted by security companies and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) to conduct their duties.
The operation raised an alarm about the JMPD’s availability of manpower when embarking on big operations.

Although the operation did bear fruits, with private security personnel assisting with their own resources, the issue of manpower remained.JMPD officer Superintendent Wandile Mrubetha said they had to bring in additional support because of the number of complaints. “We do not have sufficient manpower to address the large number of complaints, that’s why we brought in the CPF because they wanted by-laws to be enforced in the area,” Mrubetha stated.
Honeydew CPF public relations officer Jon Rosenberg said they will always gladly assist the councillor and JMPD at any time. “The CPF is more than happy to assist in bylaw contravention,” he said.
In an interview with Northsider, councillor Knott, explained the effects of illegal signage in the area. “It increases crime in the area.
“The area looks neglected because there is no visible policing and no community pride. So people do target [such] areas. The more you allow lawlessness, the bigger the issues become,” she said.
The owner of BCI, Corinda Loots, said her company is giving its full support to JMPD and the CPF. She said they do not limit themselves to security services only, but assist with law-enforcement issues.
Marcel Jonker of Dowry shared the same sentiments, also saying they are always available to serve the community.
