Kwaito star Brickz’ sentencing has been postponed
In a shocking turn of events, the sentencing of kwaito star Sipho 'Brickz' Ndlovu was postponed today after it was announced that a new attorney would be handling the matter. It is understood that Ndlovu will be appealing his rape conviction.
The Roodepoort’s Magistate’s Court was packed with journalists and spectators as kwaito star Sipho Charles Ndlovu, popularly known as Brickz made an appearance in the court today.
On 7 July 2017, the superstar was found guilty of raping a then 17-year-old relative at his home in Ruimsig and was scheduled to be sentenced today.
In a shocking turn of events, the case was postponed to a later date after the star’s initial lawyer, Dumisani Mabunda, said he had run his race and would no longer be Ndlovu’s representative. It is understood that Ndlovu’s family has contracted the services of Advocate Piet du Plessis from BDK Attorneys to handle the legal matter.

Du Plessis said the superstar’s family approached him on Monday, and asked if he would handle the bail application and the processes to appeal Ndlovu’s conviction.

“The family approached me on Monday and asked if I would represent the accused. I will be handling all matters relating to this case beyond this point. My client also has the intention to appeal his conviction,” the advocate told to the court.
Du Plessis then requested that the court grant him more time to study the case records and full reports. He then added that the accused was scheduled to receive an assessment by a social worker and the detailed evaluation would be presented to the court at the next appearance.
An irritated Magistrate John Baloyi expressed his frustration over the request for postponement, adding that the case has dragged on for too long.
“This case has gone on for over three years. We cannot afford to have it drag on for much longer. We have received a large amount of delay from the accused. I find this unacceptable,” he said.
Brickz is schedule to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for a bail application pending his sentencing on 1 August 2017. He will remain in police custody until his next appearance.
