Witpoortjie’s putt-putt course revitalised
Putt-putt returns to Witpoortjie
The Havies Putt-Putt Course in Witpoortjie, which was previously managed by Laerskool Dr Havinga is once again being rejuvenated. Minnette and Morné Appelgryn have offered to take it over as they have a vision of turning the unused playground into a children’s dream playing spot.

“Our plan was to redo it before the school holidays, so we just got stuck in. The carpet on the courses had been attacked by termites and we had to take it all off. It took a week to redo the cement. Our launch took place on 7 July and our first visitors, the children from the Honeybird Education Centre, had a blissful day.”
Putt-putt is an offshoot of golf, focusing solely on the putting aspect. It is played on courses consisting of a series of holes, usually a multiple of 9, similar to golf. Putt-putt courses are typically short, use artificial putting surfaces such as carpet, astroturf or concrete, and contain artificial obstacles such as tunnels or tubes, ramps, concrete, metal or fibreglass shapes, and moving obstacles such as windmills.

“We want the course to come alive, so come in, play and have fun. Bring your children instead of leaving them in front of gaming consoles. They will learn hand and eye coordination while enjoying the fun competitive spirit between family members, but most importantly – the family will have a chance to bond. These courses are fun, with lots of obstacles, so playing on them needs intense concentration.
There is not much to do in Witpoortjie in terms of children’s entertainment, but children should be out in the sun and not cooped up at home,” said Minnette.
The course is open from Monday to Thursday from 10am to 6pm, and on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 9pm. On Sundays, you can play from 10am to 3pm.
