Honeydew Sector 2 CPF makes Welties a little safer

Honeydew Sector 2 CPF takes a suspect and a firearm off the streets of Weltevreden Park.

The Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) recovered a firearm and apprehended a suspect during its last patrol.

After the CPF had received some information, the 15 volunteers were on the look-out for individuals who may have been involved in recent armed robberies.

The patrol came across three individuals who seemed suspicious. As they approached, the suspects made a run for it. One suspect was apprehended on the corner of Cockspur Road and Palmiet Avenue in Weltevreden Park, and a firearm was recovered.

Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan, confirmed that a 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm on 14 July at 9.19pm.

An intensive search involving the CPF, police, and a number of security companies ensued, but unfortunately the other two suspects managed to escape into the green belt.

“I would like to thank my team for their efforts. You should be proud of yourselves for taking a suspect and a firearm off the roads last night,” said Honeydew CPF public relations officer, Jon Rosenberg.

He added it was brought to the CPF’s attention that totally inaccurate reports were posted on Facebook and Whatsapp groups soon after the incident. The CPF would like to ask residents to please refrain from making such posts unless the facts have been verified, or to wait for a post by a member of the CPF.

Rosenberg also confirmed the number of volunteers for patrols has increased, which will give the team the opportunity to put more cars on the streets and have more regular patrols. Additionally, he added, two pensioners have joined the team and are able to patrol during the day.
