Cyber safety and our children

Former Roodie learner to deliver inaugural speech

With technology all around us, and literally at our fingertips, we all want to ensure that our school-going children are cyber safe. If you would like to learn how to achieve this, read on.

A former Hoërskool Roodepoort learner, Elmarie Kritzinger (neé Von Solms) will be giving her inaugural address when she takes on the position of full professor at the University of South Africa’s (Unisa’s) School of Computing Science, on 22 August. The event will take place at Unisa’s Florida campus from 5pm, under the title of Cyber Safety for School Learners. The speech will be of great value, particularly to teachers and parents, but everyone is welcome to attend.

Elmarie’s parents, Basie and Johanna von Solms, have been Roodepoort residents since 1970. Elmarie matriculated from Hoërskool Roodepoort in 1994 and completed her BSc, BSc (Hons) and MSc at the Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg) and followed up with a PhD at Unisa.

She is known for her work on cyber security awareness amongst children and learners. Should you be interested in attending her inaugural address, please contact Frances Kent by calling 012 441 5664 or by email to kentfa@unisa.co.za.
