National I Love Horses Day

Visit a stable or national park on #NationalILoveHorsesDay

15 July is National I Love Horses Day, on which the love humans have for these magnificent creatures is recognised and celebrated.

These spirited animals, with more than 200 different breeds, have given humans many reasons to love them, especially their loyalty and devotion. Horses are so much more than just a mode of transportation, they were also used to clear fields, fight wars, move cattle and as companions on long, lonely trails.

The tallest horse-breed is the Shire, with their stallions towering 17 hands above the tiny Falabella, which only grows to eight hands, making them the smallest breed. The quarter horse, which was named for its speed on a short track, is one of the three fastest horse-breeds. Thoroughbreds are faster than the quarter horse over a longer distance, but the Arabians outlast them both in endurance during the longer races.

Celebrate today by visiting a local stable for a horse-back ride, or go to a national park where wild horses still roam. If you are lucky enough to be the owner of a horse, saddle up and go for a ride.
