Sarda Gauteng wants you!

The centre needs volunteers who are 16 years of age or older, and willing to sacrifice their mornings between 9am and noon.

The South African Riding for the Disabled (Sarda) Gauteng invites individuals and businesses alike to become involved in the latest developments at the centre.

The centre is currently offering volunteer training courses and workshops for individuals who are able to give of their time to the centre to work with disabled children. The next available date to train as a beginner leader and side-walker is 17 July. There will be intermediate leader and side-walker training session on 20 July. The next workshop, which takes place on 19 July, will focus on autism and how to work with autistic children. While the training is free, the workshops are R50 per person.

Current and first-time volunteers are invited to join the training. Leader training involves getting to know the ponies and learning how to work with them in lessons. Side-walker training focuses on how to support and encourage the riders during lessons. The centre needs volunteers who are 16 years of age or older, and willing to sacrifice their mornings between 9am and noon.

Those who do not want to work with children but want to volunteer at the centre, can assist with the sensory trail, which is an ongoing, developing project that needs to be maintained. Volunteers and new items to expand the trail are required to develop the project. Sarda Gauteng can be contacted for the wish list of items it would like to add to the trail.

Businesses and teams are invited to participate in Sarda Gauteng’s annual golf day event. This year, the centre wants golfers to ‘Swing into Spring’ and join them for a day that will not only be fun and entertaining, but will enable them to create hope through horses.

There are various opportunities to get involved, such as becoming a headline sponsor, an associate partner, sponsoring a hole or entering a four-ball. The event will take place on Thursday, 31 August from 10am at The Club at Steyn City.
