Service was worth the visit

Jenine from Roodepoort writes:

Sometimes what we thought we knew to be true, is no longer the case.

Due to previous poor service and the bad reputation of the Florida Licensing Department, I recently visited the Krugersdorp Licensing Department after my ID number changed and I had to renew my driver’s licence. This was a terrible mistake. After being victimised, humiliated and discriminated against, I was abruptly sent to the Florida Licensing Department. Needless to say, I did not hold out much hope of being helped there.

But what a pleasant surprise! I arrived and joined the queue at about 6:45am. Before the doors even opened, a staff member enquired from the people in the queue what they needed and directed them where to go once the doors opened. And behold: the doors opened on time!

I was directed to a very helpful, competent woman whose duty it was to distribute the correct forms to all the visitors and advise them what to do from that point on. She immediately discerned that my case was a bit different from the run-of-the-mill stuff and personally took me through to the right person who could help me. This is where I met Lerato.

Lerato is one of the managers at Florida. Not only did she know exactly what was needed to solve my problem, but she was very professional and efficient while assisting me. She even followed up with a phone call a few days later and didn’t stop until everything was sorted out.

Everyone from the gate security, to the queue marshal, the information desk, the cashier and the management was extremely friendly, helpful and professional.

What made the whole experience even more memorable, is the fact that I was treated with so much respect and empathy, even though I am an intersex and transgender person. This is usually not the case with most government departments, unfortunately.

Thank you to everyone at Florida Licensing Department. It’s definitely worth paying them a visit.
