Alert cop on her way to work catches house-breaker

Suspect tried to hide in shop.

On 19 June, a female sergeant from Roodepoort Police Station was driving to work when she saw a man jumping over a gate in Grobler Street.

She slowed down and saw how someone handed him a plasma TV through a window of the house.The suspect inside the house then climbed out and scaled the wall. When the man with the plasma TV noticed her, he dropped the TV and made a run for it. The sergeant chased after him and finally cornered him behind the counter of a nearby store.

A struggle ensued and the suspect snatched her firearm. She bravely fought back and managed to retrieve her pistol. The man then drew a large knife but the officer made it clear that she was going to shoot him and he dropped the knife. She arrested the 25-year-old on charges of house-breaking and theft.

The station commander, Brigadier Manala, lauded her for her bravery.
