Frantic search for missing man
A 76 year old man has been reported missing in Discovery. Chris van der Merwe was last seen yesterday and his family say that he probably sneaked out of the house to visit his wife at the hospital.
His daughter Elize van der Merwe said she went with Chris to Flora Clinic and dropped him at her brother’s home at around 2pm after the visit.
“We suspect that he went back to the hospital after that but he never arrived. We have checked with the hospital and they have confirmed that he was not there. We have also contacted Sanral and the vehicle was not picked up by e-toll gantries,” she said.
Not only does Chris have trouble with his memory, he also has difficulty hearing and might appear confused.
“We have been searching hospitals in the area but no luck so far. We are also searching the Newlands area as that is where they used to stay. Maybe his memory might have returned and he went back to his previous home.”
Chris was driving a black Hyundai Atos and the registration number is TSD 382 GP.
