National Vanilla Milkshake Day

Make some homemade vanilla milkshake on #NationalVanillaMilkshakeDay

20 June is the annual celebration of National Vanilla Milkshake Day, and is happily enjoyed by many people.

You can also join in this celebration, by spoiling your family and loved ones with a homemade shake.

1885 saw the term milkshake being used in print for the very first time, but this milkshake was not your everyday, run of the mill variety. It was made from a concoction of eggs, cream and whiskey, which was often served together with other alcoholic tonics, including lemonades and soda waters.

By 1900, the milkshake had undergone a big change and during this time, was often referred to as a ‘wholesome drink made with chocolate, strawberry or vanilla syrup’. A few years later, people began asking for this new treat to be served with a scoop of ice cream, and by the 1930s, milkshakes had become one of the most popular drinks in malt shops everywhere.
