The South African Weather Service has predicted black frost for the southern parts of Gauteng

With the cold front due to reach Gauteng today, certain parts of Gauteng can expect black frost overnight.

The South African Weather Service has predicted black frost for the southern parts of Gauteng, but areas in Central Gauteng, such as Roodepoort, can also expect black frost in areas that are prone to it.

Today’s minimum in Roodepoort was -1° and the expected maximum will be 15°. Tomorrow will see a minimum of 2° and a maximum of 18°.

But what is black frost? According to The Free Dictionary, it is a dry freeze without the protective formation of hoarfrost that results in the internal freezing and death of vegetation.
