Threat received from con artist

The scam artist must have read the article in the Roodepoort Record.

The audacity of the con artist who illegally rented out property under his name has reached a new level.

Dalene de Wet advertised her property on a popular website, but soon after found out that she had become part of a scam run by one “EJ”, also known as Edwin.

“The scam artist must have read the article in the Roodepoort Record because soon after it was published we received a SMS from him that reads: “Do I give a f#$k we use fraud stuff so go f#$k you’re self and I’m coming after you’re family I know them watch out I’m on my way maybe it will be (daughter’s name) or (son’s name) oeps I have many more info so watch its time to play my game (sic).”

Initial article: Caught by a con artist

Dalene said although she was upset at first, she and her husband Lourens are not going to allow this man to continue harassing them. “We are continuing with our lives as normal. We handed the information over to the police. They confirmed that they are aware of this man because he can be connected to two other cases, one in Krugersdorp and the other in Nigel.”

Dalene said the police cannot, however, say how many people have been scammed by this man.

“I know of one person who lost R7 500, but I am not aware of any other people,” Dalene said.
