Maragon’s new principal to uphold excellence

RUIMSIG – Maragon Ruimsig High School welcomes a new principal.

Maragon Ruimsig has a new captain at its helm and looks to be sailing to new shores in the future.

The new principal of the school, Riaan Vorster, holds an honours degree in Actuarial Science with Mathematical Statistics from the University of Witwatersrand. After a brief, but successful, actuarial career, he decided to pursue a calling into education. He subsequently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education through the University of South Africa and has been created an Associate of Trinity College London.

Riaan joined Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge High in 2006 and held many positions at the school over the years as a mathematics and advanced mathematics teacher, deputy principal, the dean of Grade 8, and the dean of arts and culture. Vorster improved the quality of life of the schoolchildren and began initiatives that are still part of Trinityhouse today.

As he attended Drakensberg Boys Choir School in his youth, it is no surprise that he was also the director of music at Trinityhouse. He established the Trinity Singers, the school’s celebrated choir, which has undertaken two very successful tours to the United Kingdom. Vorster is also the composer of the beloved school hymn.

Now as principal of Maragon Ruimsig High School, one can only imagine what Vorster has planned for the continued excellence of the school. “I want to celebrate every aspect of school, whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage or out in the community. I will do whatever I can to enhance the academics, sports, arts and community outreach of the school,” Vorster said.

He believes strongly in equipping school-leavers with 21st century skills to prepare them for careers that do not exist yet. “My vision for the school is for it to be a respected institution in the community, and I wish to uphold and build on its excellence in every way. When people hear ‘Maragon’ they must think modern, relevant, 21st century and excellence,” he added.

In continuing to build on the good foundations laid for the school, Vorster wants to build relationships between Maragon’s sister schools in the ADvTECH family.

The school congratulates Vorster on his new role and wishes him every success for his new endeavour.
