National Truffle Day
The delicious sweet chocolate truffle is in the spotlight on #NationalTruffleDay
2 May is National Truffle Day and is observed annually to celebrate the sweet delicacy that is the chocolate truffle.
N Petrucelli of Chambéry in France is believed to be the one who made the first chocolate truffle in December 1895. When the Prestat Chocolate Shop opened in London in 1902, truffles became much more popular. They still sell Napoleon III truffles made according to the original recipe.
The chocolate confectionery is traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts or coconut. The truffle may have other fillings such as cream, melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, fruit, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, marshmallow or liqueur.
To celebrate today, search online for truffle recipes to make your own. Some recipes to search for, include easy Oreo truffles, easy decadent truffles, basic truffles and chocolate truffles. Invite some of your friends and family to enjoy them with you.
