Update: Florida residents still without electricity

Electricity might only be restored at 8pm – City Power

Frustrated residents from Fleurhof, Robertville, Stormill and Lea Glen are still without electricity – almost 38 hours after a transformer exploded at the Hebbard Street substation on 24 April.

According to the City Power Twitter account, the estimated time of restoration has been postponed to 8pm tonight. This is due to problems encountered by technicians working around the clock to try to restore the power.

Caleb Finn, the councillor for Ward 70, posted an update on his Facebook account at about 2pm and said that he had some bad news for residents. “I am truly sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have just spoken to the team. When they were testing ahead of doing the switching they discovered that the cable is not testing clear, and an additional fault on the terminations of Lea Glen Cable 2 has been discovered,” he said.

He added that he understood that this was not the news residents would want to hear. “I do still however maintain that the City Power team has been working exceptionally hard since Monday to repair an incredible amount of damage to the network,” Finn said. He assured residents that he will continue to monitor the situation by keeping in touch with the City Power technicians and keep residents informed.

City Power also apologised to all residents for any inconvenience caused by this incident, and urged them to please be patient.
