Six men between the ages of 35 and 48 were taken into custody by Honeydew Police on 25 April after tons of stolen cigarette boxes were found in their in possession.

According to Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, the theft occurred in the Douglasdale area, and the police received a tip-off about the offloading of goods in their area.
“Members of the Honeydew Crime Prevention Unit received information of a theft that had occurred in the Douglasdale policing area. We followed up on the information and arrested six suspects while they were offloading the stolen property from a bakkie on a plot in the Honeydew policing area,” Muthan said.

He added, “The suspects were offloading master cases of Yes cigarettes to the value of about R150 000.”
Muthan also said, “Investigations are continuing to try and link the suspects to other cigarette-related incidents. The suspects should appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 28 April or 2 May, depending on the investigation,” he concluded.
