Lindhaven-raised mom dreams of changing lives

Seya is a Mrs South Africa semifinalist

“It feels awesome. I feel like a different woman – but in a good way – and many days it still feels like a dream.”

These were the words of 31-year old Seya Sefako on being chosen as one of the Top 100 semifinalists in the Mrs South Africa Pageant. Although she is currently a resident of Morningside, she grew up in Lindhaven, Roodepoort and visits her family on a regular basis.

She has been married to the love of her life – Relebohile – for almost six years, and they have two beautiful sons aged five and three. She describes herself as someone who loves anything fitness-related and has her hands full running around after her energetic children. “I work as an aviation insurance broker and see myself as a local girl with real-life challenges,” she said.

Seya said she entered the competition because it provides married women with a platform to empower each other. “I also did it to awaken my childhood dreams and challenge myself. I want to inspire other women so they will realise that it is never too late to go after your dreams,” she said with a big smile.

She will use the Mrs South Africa platform to be a voice to other unsung women and to bring change. “I want to bring change in how we, as women, view ourselves and I want to bring change in our children’s lives so they can grow up knowing their worth,” said Seya.

Her message to other women who are also dreaming of doing something different and making a change, is simple, “Be brave, be kind to yourself and be unapologetic about going after your dreams.”

She concluded by urging everyone to help her make her dreams come true and continue her journey to become Mrs South Africa, “Please help me to be one of the Top 25 finalists by voting for me. Just SMS ‘Seya Sefako’ to 35959.”

The Top 25 finalists who will continue their Mrs South Africa journey will be announced on 28 April during the gala dinner at Emperor’s Palace.
