National Hug A Newsperson Day

Thank your hard working local newsperson on #NationalHugANewspersonDay

4 April is annually observed as National Hug A Newsperson Day, and was formerly known as National Hug a Newsman Day.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word newsman dates back to 1956.

Every year, this day affords everyone the opportunity to say thank you by hugging their local newsperson and showing their appreciation for all the years of hard work that have brought us the news from around the world.

Some of South Africa’s most famous newspersons include:

• Riaan Cruywagen

• Max du Preez

• Leeanne Mannas

• John Robbie

• Derek Watts

• Ruda Landman

To celebrate today is easy, just give your local newsperson a hug. If you are unable to hug them in person, send a virtual hug.

Use #NationalHugANespaperpersonDay to post on social media.
