Dyllan Opperman, Cole Langa and Jerome Oberholzer will be jetting off to Atlanta in June. They will be representing South Africa in the Battle of Atlanta event where they will be competing against various international kickboxing teams. The trio will be joined by Mina Lombaard and Karin van Jaarsveld who also qualified for the national team.
The martial arts competition not only encompasses kickboxing but also karate and mixed martial arts. There will be adult and youth black belt divisions, underbelt grand champions, open weight sparring divisions, semi-contact fighting and a world title match.
Dyllan, who is no stranger to the big stage, having represented the country on numerous occasions, is happy to once again be selected to wear the green and gold.
“I trained my heart out, so to make the team is a beautiful moment for me. I’ll be competing in Atlanta in America, what’s not to feel wonderful about? I know this will mean extra difficult training but I am confident I will do well there,” said Dyllan.
Cole has also been training hard to make an impact in the national team and knows the hard work he still has to put in to improve himself.
“Sparring, bag work and grading are just some of the aspects you are tested on if you want to qualify for the national team.”
Jerome has been a member of Team Rage for almost two years and has been enjoying his training. He felt good making the team, proving he is a talented kickboxer.
“I had to prove that I belonged in the team. The club has been good to me and I have enjoyed my time with the club,” he said.
The Battle of Atlanta will take place from 15 to 17 June at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Cobb Galleria Centre.
