Police urge residents to hand in unlicensed firearms

If persons are caught with unlicensed firearms, criminal charges will be laid.

The Roodepoort Police are urging the community to bring their unlicensed firearms to the station.

Expired firearms licenses must also be surrendered at the nearest police station.

The following fall under the term ‘unlicensed’:

– Firearms left by a deceased but not licensed by the estate’s executor.

– Firearm licences that have not been renewed.

– Firearms that are kept by persons without licences.

When the police conduct raids, patrols, or stop and searches and find persons in possession of such firearms, criminal charges will be laid.
