Learning to give at a tender, young age, little children from Happy Hearts Play School in Weltevreden Park showed support for the trauma centre at Honeydew Police Station on 23 March, by donating their beloved teddy bears.
The handover was kick-started by a surprise siren greeting from the police, which excited the children as they left whatever they were busy with, to go and peep through their classroom windows to wave at the policemen.
The children were later given the opportunity to physically greet officers, together with the Honeydew Community Policing Forum spokesman, Jon Rosenberg and get behind the wheel of a police van.

As a caring member of the community, Laura Gollub, the founder of the school, decided to involve the children in the charity drive as an awareness tool for them.
“We did this charity drive and involved all the children by asking them to donate any teddy bears they no longer need,” she said, adding that the drive was in line with their school theme, Community Helpers.
Gollub emphasised the importance of police visits.
“It is important for the children to learn at a young age about people who help the community,” she added.
As a token of appreciation, the police left the youngsters with a colouring exercise of a police vehicle with their emergency number.
Rosenberg expressed his gratitude to the school.

“The CPF would like to thank the school for collecting the teddy bears. This will make a huge different in a child’s life,” he said.
The Honeydew CPF offers free trauma counselling to victims of crime and relies on donations to exist.
