Black eagles continue to build new nest

POORTVIEW – Observations by the Black Eagles Project confirm the active building of a new nest.

The start of autumn has brought about more nest building activity for Roodepoort’s famous black eagles.

Member of the Black Eagle Project Roodekraans, Johann van der Berg, reported that several branches have been taken to the nest recently.

“It is becoming more and more evident that they are building a new nest, as not a single branch was delivered to the old nest during my observations, and the new nest is starting to take shape,” Van der Berg stated.

He added there is also a bit of joyous mischief in the air, as during his observations, Makatsa dropped a stick, and retrieved it again in a playful dive.

“She even went as far as performing a mock attack on Thulani, and it was great to see them swooping down at great speed,” he said.

“There is a sense of anticipation and excitement among all the friends of the eagles, and all that remains is to wish them good fortune and a successful breeding season,” Van der Berg concluded.
