Laerskool Die Ruiter kicked off its family fun weekend by racing around the sportsfield in go-karts in its annual Go-kart Day event, and learners were screaming and laughing in joy as they pushed each other in laps. This is sixth consecutive year the school has organised such an event for its pupils.

The school’s project manager, Hugo van As, was delighted at how much the event has expanded over the years – it’s always been his goal to see it grow.

“This is the start of things to come as we want to get to know not only the learners but their parents too. These days, juniors and seniors usually play on different fields, so they hardly ever see each other. Today is different. Another goal for the school is to raise funds by running its own fun version of a raffle collection.”

This year, the raffle collection was in the form of a petrol pump. The petrol pump consists of blocks listing specific amounts that need to be coloured by the sponsors as each block is purchased. The best looking car will be chosen from the entire school’s list.
