Gicarli Baby and Toddler Centre merged their curriculum with charity work by collecting pet food for Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora).
For two weeks, the schoolchildren of Gicarli have been learning about pets, with part of their themed classroom discussions revolving around homeless pets, animal shelters and how the community can assist.
Teacher Natasja Botha said the children were concerned about the animals in the shelters and the school facilitated a collection of cat and dog food.
Principal Sheryl Howes said, “It is a life skills lesson to contribute to society, be responsible and compassionate. At the end of the two weeks, many of the children brought in between 20 and 30 packets of dry food for cats and dogs.”
Fora is a right to life animal shelter for animals which are abandoned, abused, neglected or are no longer wanted. This non-profit organisation rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes animals.
