I read your article about the mother who was irate when her daughter was given a vaccination even though she had said “No” on the consent form.
I thought at the time how terrible it must be for the mom and now I find myself in the same situation. A letter from the Department of Health was sent home with my 11-year-old daughter explaining about the drive they are doing for the HPV Vaccine and that we needed to complete the consent form.
After a lot of researching on the internet, chatting to friends and even asking opinions from the medical field, my husband and I made the informed decision not to have the vaccination administered to our daughter. Imagine my horror when she came home from school yesterday (13 March) and said, “Mommy, I had an injection today”.
We had said NO on the consent form and sent it back to school. Also the letter from the Health Department stated, “You can come with your child to school on the day when the school health team visits” – but we were never informed that the health department was even visiting.
I am not naming names nor do I want to mention the school because I adore the school and have so much respect for everyone who works there. I am well aware that we are all human and we make mistakes but I just want to send this out as a warning to other parents, that if you don’t want your children to have a vaccine PLEASE make doubly sure that the school and anyone else involved is fully aware that it is a NO on the consent form.
