Teenager assaulted in Strubens Valley while trying to be of help
STRUBENS VALLEY – A youngster was assaulted by a man twice his age in a road rage incident.
Parents of a 17-year-old are saddened by an outraged motorist who allegedly assaulted their son when he acted as a Good Samaritan.
This after a collision occurred involving a car and motorcycle at the intersection of Hendrik Potgieter and Cascades roads on 6 March.
The teenager’s parents, who wished to remain anonymous, told Roodepoort Northsider that the road rage incident happened when security personnel, who arrived on the scene before emergency services, instructed their son to help divert traffic on Cascades Road.
“Upon doing so, a man driving a black car started yelling at him saying he was unauthorised to be controlling traffic,” the teenager’s mother recalled.
After arguing about the issue, the boy’s mother said, “The driver, twice my son’s age, started causing a scene by swearing and assaulting my son.”

Onlookers at the scene managed to capture and circulate a few shots of the incident.
The teenager was allegely smacked around by the angry motorist until security personnel from BCI Security came to his rescue.
“When security officers intervened, the driver got back into his car and drove off. We then opened a case of assault against the motorist because my son had sustained minor bruises to his head and neck.”
Metro police spokesperson, Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “Although the civilian had good intentions, he had no authority.”
Minnaar urged residents to immediately call emergency services or police in an emergency.
Honeydew Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan confirmed that the case was registered at the station.
