Allen Glen High focuses on soccer skills
ALLENS NEK – Training is held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Allen Glen High School's sports field.
FC Real Football Academy has returned to its home ground at Allen Glen High School.
The academy, which aims to develop underprivileged but talented football players from Eldorado Park and Soweto, is in its fifth year of operation.
Former Bafana Bafana player, Bevan Bowers followed his passion and started the academy.
This year the academy’s focus will be on growing its numbers, especially to build up the FC Real women’s team and are looking for girls over the age of 14 to join. It is free to join.
Training is held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Allen Glen High School’s sports field.
The academy currently consists of 80 players who are preparing for the Rand Central Local Football Association league in April.
No teams have been selected as the players are focusing on fitness.
Coach and ex-Allen Glen pupil, Chane Mynhardt said, “We are focusing on skill work and building as a team. We have age-specific structured sessions and end with a mini match to conclude the day’s training.”
FC Real has started the year on a strong note and looks forward to carrying on the positivity with their new feeding programme which provides sandwiches and juice to underprivileged players.
Founder and head coach, Bowers, will also soon pass his CAF C licence which will enable him coach at a national level.
