According to the police, the protest is illegal and the vehicles will be removed and the drivers arrested.
Motorists travelling on the R24 to or from OR Tambo International Airport can expect serious delays as metered taxis have blocked the highway in protest against Uber taxis.
The protest is affecting the N12 to Barbara Road as well as the R21. Trucks and buses are also participating in the protest. According to the police, the protest is illegal and the vehicles will be removed and the drivers arrested.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesman Kobedi Mokheseng said alternative routes are as follows: at Gillooly’s Interchange, head east on either the R24 or N12; or, at the off-ramp at the Driefontein Interchange, take the R21. That will take you north if your destination is Tshwane or the OR Tambo International Airport.
