9 March is National Meatball Day, and, although it is unclear exactly how this day was started, who can resist the idea of celebrating this day?
There are many different ways to celebrate the meatball, including:
– Spaghetti and meatballs
– Swedish meatballs
– Meatball subs
– Meatball pizza
– Turkey meatballs
– Lamb meatballs
– Porcupine meatballs (made with rice)
There are many more ways, but if all them were to be listed, the list would be very long.
Meatballs do not only allow for variety – they can transform from an appetizer to a side dish to a main dish very easily. Some restaurants serve as many as 54 different kinds of meatballs.
Meatballs can be made ahead and kept in a crockpot overnight, or even days before use, and kept in the freezer.
To celebrate today, you can visit your local restaurant and enjoy some meatballs. Or, you can cook up your favourite meatballs to enjoy either by yourself or with family and friends. Some restaurants give a free side dish of meatballs on this day, while others donate money to homeless shelters.
