Eighty-six arrested over weekend

Stop-and-search operation once again proves to be successful.

This past weekend, 24 to 26 February, Roodepoort Police arrested 86 suspects during a special stop-and-search operation.

The suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, possession of stolen motor vehicle, sexual assault, shoplifting, possession of dagga, reckless and negligent driving, malicious damage to property, contravention of the Liquor Act, dealing in drugs, theft, housebreaking and theft, possession of copper cables, being an illegal immigrant and public drinking.

The suspects, whose ages range from 19 to 53, were detained at Roodepoort Police Station.

The police said they want to stress once again that drinking in public is a criminal offence and punishable by law.
