NORTHWOLD – A pupil at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School and local, Connor Lessle, recently visited his home suburb in Johannesburg to promote his school.
The talented vocalist hails from Northwold and returned with fellow pupils to promote his school, the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, at Constantia Kloof Primary.
Lessle explained he auditioned for a place at the school when he was seven and his name was placed on a list to join the school when he was of age in Grade 4.
He had no previous singing training or experience before he auditioned but now he has fallen in love with music and is very sad to leave at the end of the year. Among other qualities, he’s learnt it is okay to be homesick and cry for your parents, and to be in a brothership is one of the most unbreakable bonds.
Now in his final year at the school, Grade 9, Lessle does not regret leaving home to be part of the school.
“It is a journey you could not experience anywhere else. They teach principles in a different way and the discipline and maturity you attain at the school is special,” he added.
He has taken on the role as marketing prefect, one of 10 prefects selected from final-year pupils. He loves to mentor the younger boys and has been a member of the Chamber Choir for the past two years, which has seen him travel twice overseas.
“To see our son develop and grow into a respectful, hardworking and mature young man has made us extremely proud,” said his mother, Vanessa.
Lessle knows he would not be as disciplined or mature without his school experiences and aspires to be part of St Albans College in Pretoria.
