The awards ceremony was held at the school hall, where parents were invited to witness their children receive their hard-earned accolades in their respective classes for last year.

Jenna, who now promises to be the school’s top matriculant at the end of this year, said she did not expect so many awards and hopes to improve her Grade 11 results.

“I wasn’t expecting so many awards. This was through hard work, dedication and perseverance, even when I thought I was dropping,” she said.

The adamant top achiever added that she put on hold all other extra curriculum activities such as sports, to focus on her studies.

“I have junior full colours in hockey but this year I chose to focus on my academics,” said Jenna. She cited that her late father is the reason why she pushes hard at school.

She also mentioned that she looks to pursue information technology (IT) or computer applied technology (Cat) studies at the University of Pretoria, next year.

Alexia Katsaras and Maxine Maistry, topped the Grade 9 class.

Jenna’s proud mother, Colleen, who attended the ceremony with Jenna’s friend, Leanne Cundill and Jenna’s granny Cynthia Meyer, said she was excited that her daughter finally scooped the Dux award, which she has been longing for.

Jenna was awarded the following: Top Ten, Gold Bar; Subject Awards and Dux, among others.

In the lower grades, Carlyn Davis and Tyreeze Govender (Grade 8s) and Maxine Maistry and Alexia Katsaras, Grade 9, walked tall, bagging every award in the grade.
