The Ultimate Soccer Fun Day took place at the Florida Astro Turf. From 5-a-side matches and a Playstation FIFA tournament to penalty and free kick challenges, soccer fans were delighted at the variety in store.
Hosted by Ultimate Gaming Velociti, this event was the first of its kind to take place at the astro turf. This has been the dream of Quiyaam February who has been working hard to bring it to the community.
“Our aim is to host this event every month. It helps soccer coaches who want to improve their players’ skills and for friends who just want to make a few bucks by winning. This is a family-oriented event and we want to expand it and get in more people to assist us. It is our vision to make a difference in the community,” he said.
The 5-a-side competition had 200 players split into different teams. The FIFA competition had strict rules to ensure fairness, which include the settings at Classic with eight minutes per match. Prize money was on offer for all the teams and players who finished in the top three in each of the events.

The organisation already had trial runs of the project at Brixton Primary School and they were a resounding success.
The event was assisted by the National Youth Development Programme. The organisation has the vision of using sport and gaming to fight and win the current war against drugs, alcohol abuse, racism and unemployment in the community.

“We invite organisations to sponsor young teams from underprivileged backgrounds that cannot afford the entry fee. We need help with PS4 consoles and controllers as well as Call of Duty and FIFA 17 games,” said Quiyaam.
