Welties sinkhole under repairs

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Sinkhole repairs underway in Weltevreden Park.

WELTEVREDEN PARK – On Rinyani Avenue close to Kastaiing Street and in Weltevreden Park is under minor construction after the road developed a sinkhole and long cracks appeared on the road.
The sinkhole was discovered by a private maintenance expert, Steven Kruger from SKM maintenance on 13 February who then reported the problem to Johannesburg Roads Agency.
Kruger described the sinkhole as a catastrophe waiting to happen, fearing that heavy vehicles could cause a major collapse.

“The hole is humongous and it’s dangerous for trucks and cars using the road,” said Kruger while on the scene. He added that the sinkhole could collapse anytime and cause havoc if not attended to immediately. “The hole seems to be small but it’s deeper when you look right in it,” Kruger said, after assessing and measuring the sinkhole.
