Update: Alleged racist taken to court
RUIMSIG – Local EFF branch will support an alleged racism victim in court.
RUIMSIG – A prominent man accused of assaulting and making racial slurs to a Ruimsig informal dweller, Rifilwe Sebola (19), because of his political affiliation, is due to appear in court on 3 March.
The man, known to the publication, is set to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of assault and racism.
Muldersdrift police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi confirmed that the man has been summoned by the court and signed to appear in court.

Sebola was allegedly attacked on 10 December last year and called a monkey for wearing an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) beret. The attack angered many supporters of the political party in Ward 97 who then picketed on 14 December outside a recreational facility, where the man was believed to be working.
At the time, the traumatised Sebola said, “I was at a service station waiting to direct an ambulance to an emergency in my area when this man arrived and started shaming me for wearing my beret.

“He said he was once a soldier and I had no reason to be wearing my beret.”
EFF’s proportional representative (PR) councillor, Donald Mabunda said he hopes the suspect gets locked up. He added that police have given them the assurance that they will collect more evidence concerning the crimen injuria part of the case and the party will be there to support their comrade in court.
