Burned baby: Domestic working for new employer
Statement vague and implausible.
The domestic worker who allegedly burned the feet of her employer’s 14-month-old baby on a stove plate, was taken in to make a statement, but has been released and is currently working for a new employer in Randburg.
The mother of the child rushed from work on 22 December 2016 after the domestic worker called her saying “something is wrong” with the little girl’s feet. The mother found the baby’s feet had been severely burned. After a charge of child abuse was laid against her, the employee failed to return to work.
Now the family is at their wits’ end, saying the police have done very little since the incident and are unresponsive to her inquiries as to the state of the case. They are also outraged by the fact that although the police located the domestic worker and took her statement, which was very vague, unsatisfactory and implausible, she was released. The domestic worker is also allegedly working for a new household in Randburg. The investigating officer told the mother that the docket has been sent to the public prosecutor in order for him to decide whether it is justified that the case goes to court.
“What more proof do you need than just looking at my child’s feet? And now she is working for another unsuspecting family. Who says the same thing or another atrocity will not be committed?” said the indignant mother.
The family is also not coping with the medical bills, and despite being sternly advised that the baby needs psychological therapy, have not consulted a therapist as they cannot afford the fees.
The Florida Police spokespersons were contacted for comment but neither could be reached.
