Pelser: Handwriting analysis still outstanding
Defence requests transcript of bail hearing.
The case in which 22-year-old Marthinus Pelser stands accused of having murdered his six-month-old baby, was postponed again.
Pelser appeared in Court E of the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court via audio-visual remand (AVR) earlier today (30 January). The prosecutor asked that the case be postponed until 23 February due to the fact that the handwriting analysis is still outstanding. Pelser’s legal representative, Advocate Van Rensburg asked Magistrate Delize Smith for a copy of the transcript of the bail hearing and was told he had to apply for it.
Baby Deon’s mother, Bianca Rothman, discovered his brutally abused body in his cot after returning from work on 11 June 2016. Pelser went on the run for five days but was arrested when a member of the public spotted his vehicle close to Clearwater Mall.
