21 January is National Hugging Day, a day created to help everyone show more emotion in public.
This day may share some similarities with the Free Hugs campaign, but there is no association between the two. Hugging has a lot of mental and physical health benefits, whether you are hugging a stranger or a family member.
Some benefits of hugging include:
– Reducing worry about mortality
– Boosting the immune system
– Improving heart health
– Alleviating stress
– Balancing the nervous system
– Elevating mood
– Increasing empathy and understanding
– Relieving pain
– Relaxing the body
– Increasing bonding
This day was founded on 29 March 1986 by Reverend Kevin Zaboney in Caro, Michigan.
There is only one way you are supposed to celebrate today, give someone a big hug and use #NationalHuggingDay to post on social media.
