Video: Massive explosion rocks suburb
Man allegedly wanted to burn rubbish.
Certain parts of Witpoortjie were rocked by the sound of a massive explosion last night. Some residents thought it was caused by an ATM bombing or gas bottles exploding.
A resident on Fraser Street allegedly wanted to burn rubbish and plant material that were lying in his empty swimming pool. At about 9pm he poured petrol over the rubbish and lit it. Shortly afterwards it exploded. It is speculated that the decomposing material has started building up gas over time. The explosion caused extensive damage to his house and some damage to his neighbour’s house.

The man undertook to pay for his neighbour’s damage.
Emergency services were on the scene to contain the fire. No one was injured in the explosion.
