Take-aways are way too easy

I am amazed that I have not seen any letters of objection to the imposition of a sugar tax to reduce obesity, when my feeling is that obesity has little to do with sugar. I think that, plain and simply, people are not eating properly. Gone are the days of a meal of home-cooked meat, chicken or fish and an assortment of freshly cooked vegetables or a mixed salad, with different fruits as a pudding or snacks.
It is too easy to drive down the block to a fast food or take-away ‘restaurant’ for hamburgers, fried chicken, or fish and chips, perhaps with a carbonated drink. We all know of officials demanding fast foods and drinks to waive driving offences, people in offices licking their fingers after some nice chicken and chips, and parents stuck in long traffic jams who have no time to cook when they get home, so they stop off for a pizza or other fast food.
When people worked physically instead of slouching around offices doing very little they were healthy, slim and looked good. Take a look at the employees in many offices today; they are obese and slumped in chairs doing virtually nothing. Has anyone seen a slim policeman that could run and catch a crook? Yet, our teenagers and young twenty-ish people are slim, slick and attractive – both male and female. I cannot say what they eat, if anything, but they are far healthier than their older colleagues or bosses. If time is a problem, cook in bulk over the weekend and freeze home-cooked meals that just need to be thawed – put them out in the morning, and reheat them in the microwave.
I am sure that would go a long way to eliminating obesity, and fast foods and take-aways could be an occasional treat.
