Hoërskool Die Adelaar’s two top teachers are celebrating a job well done following the release of the 2016 matric exam results. Lynette Scott and Ronelle Labuschagne’s learners produced 22 distinctions in 2016, marking an achievement for the school and its teachers.
Lynette taught History to 74 learners last year. They achieved an average of 69,4 per cent. Ronelle who teaches Accounting achieved an average of 63 per cent and five distinctions with her learners. Two of the school’s top matriculants, Nonhlanhla Skosana and Mbali Twala will be studying BCom Accounting at the University of Johannesburg.
“The secret to passing and being a top learner is to work hard. Start from day one and not when it’s crunch time. I will now be pursuing my dream of studying Accounting and it’s all thanks to my teacher,” said Nonhlanhla. Her sentiments were shared by Mbali who said a love and passion for numbers led her to choosing a career in the field.
“Accounting is for those who love the work and numbers, and I’m excited for what the future will bring,” she said.
Simphiwe Zikalala who is ranked fourth in the school’s matric results scores said she will be studying Psychology.
“I want to help people deal with their problems,” she said.
Principal Dries Wilters was ecstatic about the results produced by his learners.
“Die Adelaar was a traditionally Afrikaans-medium school. In 2002 the school decided to accept both Afrikaans and English as the language of learning and teaching. Since then the school has excelled and is one of District 12’s top performing schools every year. Adies teachers help their learners to perform well and achieve good results. The school’s Grade 12 passing average has never fallen to below 93 per cent. We are proud to be part of the school and know that we develop all our learners holistically to become adults who can contribute to the development of our country,” he said.
