National Hat Day

15 January is National Hat Day, the perfect opportunity to express to the world who you are by sporting your favourite headgear.

A hat enables the person wearing it to be absolutely anything. From protecting your head from the cold or heat of the day to bringing some style to an outfit, hats are truly amazing.

Hats have been around since at least 3 000 BC – an image of a man wearing a straw hat was discovered in a mural from that time. Since then, hats have served some incredibly diverse purposes – from simple protective wear to helping those stuck in the rain, cold or hot sun. Hats also indicate rank and status and are recognised as the ultimate mark of royalty. Hats have undergone an immense number of changes, with varietions appearing all over the world in every possible culture.

To celebrate today, break out your favourite headgear and use it to make a huge impression. You can also use the opportunity to discover every use a hat has to offer. Some of the most popular hats these days are animal hats that have long arms dangling down to keep your ears warm or to secure the hat to your head, or just to look adorable.

Baseball caps – displaying far more than just team affiliation – are also available. They can share messages of spirituality, fandom for a particular franchise, or even display your favourite sport.
