City Power is aware of the power outage in Florida and surrounding areas and has dispatched technicians who are working hard to restore power.
According to Yumna Sheik, the spokesperson for City Power, there was a trip on the feeder cable from Florida substation at 8:13am on the morning of 12 January, causing outages. “This happened due to cable theft. Repairs were carried out and 90 per cent of the affected areas have been restored already. The remaining areas fed from Maraisburg switching station will only be restored once all repairs are complete. For now we do not have an estimated time of restoration for the remaining 10 per cent,” Sheik said.
According to Caleb Finn, the councillor for Ward 70, he spoke to City Power and they said the power outage might continue for a while, as a contractor has been called to repair the section of the cable that was stolen.
“Although the power to a number of areas has been restored, there are still several areas without power. City Power is aware of the smaller outages and problems. Technicians are working through the list as fast as possible,” Finn said.
